To Replace Northern Regional Council and its Monitors with Marae and its Kaitiaki

Northern Regional Council and its monitors have zero presence in Tinopai and very little presence in the whole of the Kaipara Harbour which stretches out to 1346 square kilometres of coastal area.  On 11 October 2018 Tinopai RMU made submissions to the Proposed Regional Plan objecting to the extensive list of Permitted Activities and those activities taking place in Kaipara Harbour due to its decimated condition.

Check the Permitted Activities out: http://www.nrc.govt.nz/newregionalplan ;

It was our contention that NRC have made so many activities "Permitted Activities" because they do not have enough monitors for Kaipara Harbour let alone Northland.  "There are 5 monitors for the Kaipara in any given week" a quote from NRC staff.

At our hearing submissions on 11 October 2018 TRMU proposed that the Northern Regional Council and its monitors be removed from the jurisdiction of the Kaipara Harbour and replaced with all the  Marae on the Kaipara and the hundreds of kaitiaki that come with those marae.

We are meeting with marae to present our submissions and report on our plans to procure our objectives.  So far, we have had 100% support and feedback to our proposals.  If you are interested on behalf of your marae or as kaitiaki, please contact us.
